The Utah Department of Natural Resources, Division of Wildlife Resources, has seasonal positions (no benefits) available in Springville, Utah. These appointments will last from approximately April 1 to Sept. 30, 2025 (starting and ending dates are flexible, with the possible opportunity to work until Dec. 1, 2025). Starting and ending dates are also flexible depending on school schedules, etc. Housing is not provided.
Job duties
The primary responsibility of this position will be to assist in the DWR’s habitat restoration efforts by eradicating noxious weeds on various Wildlife Management Areas in the Central Region. This position will also assist with other habitat improvement projects, such as building and repairing wildlife guzzlers (water collection devices), planting native plants and building wildlife-specific fencing on WMA lands, trail maintenance, etc. In summary, they will assist with the management of DWR-owned properties by constructing and maintaining fences, spraying weeds with herbicide, decommissioning illegal trails and assisting in other duties as required to support the DWR’s Central Region habitat section.
Job requirements and skills
The successful applicant will have relevant coursework in biology, ecology or a related field, or equivalent experience in wildlife, range management or a closely related field. Applicants must be 18 years of age or older and have a valid driver’s license at the time of employment. Successful applicants must have good organizational and communication skills, and be capable of working independently and as part of a team. Experience with wildlife or habitat-related work, operating ATVs and four-wheel drive vehicles, and towing and backing trailers, is a plus. Basic knowledge of shop skills, such as welding and trailer maintenance, is preferred.
Work requires physical exertion. May require the ability to stand; walk over rough surfaces; bend, crouch, stoop, stretch, reach and lift moderately heavy items (up to 50 lbs.) in a recurring manner and/or for long periods of time. Applicants must be able to work outdoors in extreme weather conditions.
