The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources is conducting research on native forbs (flowering plants) used for wildlife habitat restoration in the Great Basin and Colorado Plateau. This research includes investigating methods for cultivating and harvesting seed from native forbs and grasses using conventional farm equipment.

Job duties
Work will primarily consist of maintaining (e.g., weeding and watering) and collecting data from study plots located on a small research farm in Fountain Green, Utah. It will also involve installing and repairing sub-surface irrigation drip tape. Some travel throughout the state to collect data from other study plots may be required.

Job requirements and skills
This job requires a strong work ethic and the ability to perform demanding outdoor physical labor. The ideal candidate will have skill or experience in vegetation monitoring, herbicide application, farm equipment operation, plant identification and basic computer proficiency. Preference will be given to applicants pursuing a career and/or degree in natural resource management or a related field.

Work Schedule
Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Some variation may occur (alternate hours or days) depending on work needs. This position does not offer paid leave for federal or state holidays.

Other
This position involves significant outdoor work in all types of weather, including extreme heat. Heavy exposure to various grasses and pollen is expected. Individuals with severe allergies to grass or pollen should carefully assess their suitability for this role.
