WRI Announces Funding For Water Development Projects

Utah’s Watershed Restoration Initiative, coordinated by the Utah Department of Natural Resources (DNR), recently announced a $2 million funding opportunity for those interested in range, forest and woodland water developments. 

Projects must demonstrate a benefit to one or more of the following: watershed health and biological diversity, water quality and yield for all uses, opportunities for sustainable uses of natural resources.

Funding can be used for all of the following:

  • Spring developments
  • Guzzlers
  • Pipelines
  • Water troughs
  • Solar/wind water wells
  • Water catchments/ponds
  • New water development and repair/improvement to existing water developments

Eligible applicants include state or federal natural resource managers, state or federal grazing permit holders, private landowners associated public land grazing permits and wildlife, agriculture or natural resources oriented non-profit groups. Preference will be given to projects that assist permittees in making use of their water allotments or have had limited use of allotments due to lack of water. Projects that improve livestock distribution on sensitive areas will also be given higher preference.
